A camera is supposed to catch reality and film things how they are. What if we use the camera to film things how they are not? This project with the title THE CONCERT is a physical theatre solo performance for one performer, one VJ, three old televisions, and two cameras. Events unfold within the framework of a classical concert, whose conventions the piece references but gradually deconstructs. Through cameras that film both what is present and what is absent, live and pre-recorded images collide on the television screens, destabilising the boundary between what is real and what is constructed, between the present moment and its simulation. When reality is continuously mediated by images, does it remain reality – or does it become something else entirely? This performance was created as a graduating MA project of Rebekka Pichler at the physical theatre school Accademia Teatro Dimitri.
