Puppet theatre and theatre of form directing is the art of storytelling through image, material, movement, and relationships. It is a space where the actor, puppet, object, light, sound, and scenography become equal means of expression, creating a rich and multilayered stage language.
Contemporary theatre of form constantly pushes beyond the boundaries of traditional puppet theatre. It combines classical puppetry techniques with new technologies, visual arts, dance, performance, and film, offering creators almost limitless possibilities for artistic exploration. The director is not only an interpreter of the text but, above all, a designer of the audience’s experience—shaping meaning through visual composition, rhythm, symbolism, materiality, and the animation of form.
How is a performance created in which an object becomes the protagonist? How can material tell a story as powerfully as words? How are stage metaphors constructed, and how does a director guide the dialogue between actor, puppet, mask, and object?

Through these conversations, we aim to bring together diverse perspectives on contemporary puppet theatre, revealing both its richness and its contrasts. At the same time, we want to provide emerging directors with a platform to share their artistic vision and creative approach, while also giving voice to experienced practitioners whose work continues to shape the landscape of contemporary theatre.
We begin with a conversation featuring Agnieszka Błaszczak—an accomplished theatre director and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Directing at the AST Branch in Wrocław. Specialising in visual and puppet theatre, she has directed more than 35 productions for institutional and independent theatres in Poland and abroad, as well as several short documentary films and documentary reports.
