Metaforms Festival

The International Puppet Schools Festival “Metaforms” is a biennial festival organized by the Puppet Department of the Academy of Theatre Arts in Kraków, Wrocław Branch. It is an artistic showcase for students from puppet schools—actors, directors, and creators of form theatre. The festival has been held since the early 1990s and is one of the key platforms for exchanging experiences, ideas, and trends in contemporary puppet theatre.

Metaforms promotes interdisciplinary activity—combining traditional puppetry with new media, animation, installation, and other fields of study. The program usually includes student performances, graduates’ shows from Puppet Departments, workshops, discussions, installations, and performances. The next, 17th edition of the festival will take place from October 27–30, 2026.

The festival aims to showcase and promote the latest trends in puppet theatre and to integrate domestic and international communities—studies, schools, and artistic institutions. The program includes performances, workshops, publications, and discussions, creating a space for both students and experienced creators.
